The Lincoln Memorial was built in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. The memorial consist of 38 vertical columns which surrounds it, 36 of those columns represents the 36 states in the union at the time of Abraham Lincolns death, and the other 2 columns are at the entrance of the memorial. The memorial contains a statue of Abraham Lincoln himself and inscriptions of both his Gettysburg address and his second Inaugural address. This site is also a place where the public gathers or hold protests. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I had a dream" speech by the Lincoln memorial. The Lincoln Memorial can be found on constitution and independance avenue. The memorial is open from 8:00am-11:45pm every day except for on christmas day.
